“ Jamie W and I figured out that we couldn't simply stroll to George Town's Little India from our hotel because chances were pretty good we would be roadkill given the dearth of crosswalks in George Town. Instead we took a Grab to Restoran Kapitan which I had seen was recommended by a young American vlogger on YouTube. Our driver questioned our choice - which we agreed was based on nobody we knew or trusted - and told us he knew a much better place. Although we saw Kapitan looked empty at the lunch hour, we'll never know if it was any good. However, we can state that the driver's recommendation was an unequivocally good one, quite bustling and presumably filled with far more locals rather than tourists. The menu was quite huge and compartmentalized, so we took our time making our selections. We started with the RM350 Ginger Tea. Mixed with coconut milk, it was quite refreshing (photo: https://yelp.to/m3v4S7p5qo). We were definitely hungry. The RM13.80 Bendi Masala (Okra) and RM13.80 Aloo Mutter (Potatoes & Cauliflower) were the first dishes to arrive (photo: https://yelp.to/YI2CQ37ceV). They were saucier than their Americanized counterparts but still delicious in a homestyle kind of way. Our main entree was the RM44.90 Lamb Shank Masala, a generous, tender cut of meat left on the bone and marinated in briyani masala, ginger garlic paste, turmeric, and red chili powder (photo: https://yelp.to/hdJWfPlg0E). To sop up all the sauce, we had the handmade and quite addictive RM8.90 Garlic Naan (photo: https://yelp.to/AuHxPL2ZvW) and made a last-minute order of the RM10 Mushroom Fried Rice (photo: https://yelp.to/Slo-SAmZhL). We also ordered the RM19.90 Tandoori Chicken Briyani which provided us a tasty thigh and leg also marinated in briyani masala and accompanied by daal, rice, and a hard-boiled egg (photo: https://yelp.to/PifeHtSKz_). All of it was delicious and filling, but... Given all the sweets on display in the entry area (photo: https://yelp.to/z198KIP4b6), we couldn't leave without some dessert. We ordered a RM1.50 Indian Donut and a RM1.50 Jalebi, a pastry soaked liberally in sugar syrup (photo: https://yelp.to/bRakW2h5dZ). Yes, we were stuffed, and we were only beginning our day in George Town. Turned out the Grab driver was right about this place. If you're in the mood for tasty homestyle South Asian food that prioritizes flavor over presentation, this is the place to direct your Grab driver. “ I had an awesome experience at this Indian restaurant. I came on the recommendation of a friend who's a local. I ordered the butter naan, chicken tandoori, and prawn curry. The food was incredible and the service was quick. My friend ordered the veggie curry, cauliflower, and garlic rice and said her meal was amazing as well. The place was filled with locals so you know it's authentic! Would definitely recommend coming here while visiting Penang. ”
“ How do I describe the joy of this place? First thing you should know is that it's not fancy. It's a casual go wash your hands over there in the sink kind of place. But then you get this extensive menu in your hands and you find all you want is everything. So you order a bit of everything, through a healthy dose of advice from the waiter. And then it all comes and no one talks for a few minutes because it's amazing and filling up your taste buds and all your Indian food cravings real nice. ... And then you're at home writing a Yelp review and all you want is some more of that paneer. Good luck. ”
“ Delicious, no fuss dosa house. They have a lot more items on their menu than dosas but dosas are my favourite here. Unlimited pour of three different types of vegetarian curries, dosas served hot and crispy, good customer service with service machines at every table (request service or your check simply by pressing a button), airy and bright space with canteen like tables - what's not to like? I always order the dosa masala when I come which means I get an extra serving of potato curry which they wrap inside my dosa. Delicious!! They also have a small room that is air conditioned where you can sit inside but I believe you will pay slightly more if you choose the air conditioned room versus the space without. ”
